I’m in New Mexico for work this week and had an opportunity to check out the Sandia Mountains. The views here are so beautiful. I will let the pictures speak for themselves. I had planned to get a rigorous long trail run in but it just wasn’t that kind of day. To my dismay, I’m learning to accept that not every workout is going to be completely kick ass. What’s important is forward drive and constant improvement.
Here are some videos and pictures for your enjoyment. 🙂
And this week’s weekly update from the weekend…because I forgot to post it here. 🙂
Welcome to Albuquerque…..and you did ride the tram. A must when you visit here. As for trail running I am sure the elevation here in ABQ will be tough on you at first. Park your car at Bear Canyon Damn on Juan Tabo and run towards the mountain (I do this run twice a week its rocks) under the road and to the 2nd gate then back to the damn is a nice 3+ mile run with some serious elevation. No mountain lions….maybe a roadrunner or two and the tail is very runner friendly. Ron

Oh….one of my favorite spots to train is around Albuquerque Academy. Google it…and park at the church. The loop around the Academy is 3.2 miles and has some nice hills but a great place to run. Lots of people run it daily. I always run it clockwise. But it is up to you. Great views as well. Enjoy!

Thanks for the great tips! I am back in Minnesota this morning but will definitely check that out next time I am in the area. Such a beautiful place to run – you are lucky!

Beautiful pics of New Mexico. I also watched your week 9 Marathon Training YouTube. It seemed like you are discouraged with yourself…I don’t think you should be though. You are doing a great job, and you’re right its SO tough to train in the heat. During the work weak, I like to get out just before sunrise. Its still humid, but not hot and sunny. That seems to help. Also, during long runs if I get super bored, I’ll finish up on the treadmill or elliptical. I don’t think that’s ideal training, but it keeps you in the game.
Please check out my blog if you have a chance. I have a new post

Thanks Rebecca! I was feeling pretty down about that long run. I like to get out early when I can but have also been battling some insomnia which isn’t good either. I just need to get myself back on track. Thanks for the encouragement. 🙂 I will check out your blog today!
