My husband has been out of town this weekend for so I wasn’t able to get in my normal long run outside. I was faced with the following choices: skip the long run, move the long run, or get it in on the treadmill. All of these sounded terrible so I considered the one that would help my training plan the most – the treadmill.
The cons of treadmill workouts are many:
- It’s boring.
- No fresh air.
- It’s boring.
- No sense of adventure.
- It’s boring.
- No natural hills.
- It’s boring.
- Nothing to look at… and it’s boring.
There are some pros though as well:
- Convenience to home amenities.
- You can “bring” more stuff than you could outside – food, fluids, band-aids, technology, etc.
- …. alright I just have those 2.
But sometimes you just *have* to do it! Here is a short video I put together to sum up how I execute a long run on the treadmill when there aren’t other options.
I also filmed a short video recap of my week’s training. 🙂 Hope everyone is having a great week! Have you ever had to run long on the treadmill? How did it go? Would you do it again?
Ida skipp’d it! NO TREADMILLS…EVER!

It wasn’t ideal but I truly felt I’d be behind in training without it. I definitely avoid it whenever possible. 🙂

I’ve done 8 miles on the treadmill, and it wasn’t too awful. It was a gym treadmill, so there were less amenities, but I’d do it again if I had to. Not sure I could do much more than that, though.

Nice work! I’ve done 7 and 8 before the 10 mile thing this weekend. Took some mental preparedness as well.

I’ve done probably about 15 miles on a treadmilll before and honestly, I don’t mind it that much. I know I’m one of the few! I always just have a ton of shows, documentaries or movies ready to watch and music for back-up when I need some extra motivation. I also always try to cover up the numbers so I’m not just watching the miles slowly rack up.

That’s awesome! I hope to never *need* to do 15 miles on the treadmill but it’s good to know it’s a doable option! 🙂
